However, a costly own goal from Toby Alderweireld in the 90th minute saw the visitors lose the point to gift the title-chasers an edge in the race.
The race for the domestic title is heating up as the Merseyside outfit chases its first title since 1990, with Manchester City vigorously defending the title they won under Pep Guardiola last season. The defending champions are two points behind the league leaders with a game in hand.
