Here’s the official description of the upcoming spinoff courtesy of an AMC press release.
“The third installment of the franchise will feature two young female protagonists and focus on the first generation to come-of-age in the apocalypse as we know it. Some will become heroes. Some will become villains. In the end, all of them will be changed forever. Grown-up and cemented in their identities, both good and bad. Produced and distributed by AMC Studios, the series will premiere on AMC in spring 2020.”
With those scant details in mind, here are the photos.
Now, let’s meet the currently known cast of the series as announced this summer.
The Walking Dead 2020 Spinoff Cast
Aliyah Royale (Iris): Royale is perhaps best known for her role as Jira Calder-Brennan in The Red Line on CBS. The show was canceled in June, which makes this Walking Dead announcement all the more fortuitous. Her former character dealt with complex family relationships and difficult situations, so there’s definitely plenty of inspiration for Royale to draw from in this new role. Alexa Mansour (Hope): On the show, her character is described as a “good-natured rule-breaker who lives for today. She is likable and funny on the outside, but sad on the inside. " She’s best known for her role as Erica Dunne in Unfriended: The Dark Web, which means she’s got some horror chops under her belt. Nicolas Cantu (Elton): His character is described as “small for his age in addition to being friendly and an old soul. He also has a black belt in karate. " As far as acting is concerned he’s more or less a fresh face. Hal Cumpston (Silas): His character is “big for his age. He is a shy loner that scares some kids, but he hates the fact that he scares people. " He starred in and wrote a dromedy called Bilched that debuted in Australia earlier this year, but The Walking Dead spinoff is his first major role. Annet Mahendru (Huck): She’s best known for playing Nina Kilova in The Americans on FX but also has credits in The X-Files: Re-Opened and Tyrant. Her specialties seem to include heavily dramatic roles with complex relationships and intrigue. It’ll be interesting to see how those leanings lend themselves to Kirkman’s apocalypse. Nico Tortorella (Felix): In the span of the show he plays Felix, “an honorable man of his word who isn’t afraid to fight for others’ safety and acceptance. " Considering his past work on The Following and Scream 4, Tortorella certainly knows what he’s doing when it comes to dramatic plots with horror elements.
We’ll learn more about these characters and what they’re doing in these photos when the next Walking Dead spinoff premieres this spring.
