The Radio Voice on the TV Series

The mysterious radio voice first appeared in episode 6 of Season 10, where the speaker reveals she grew up in Strasburg, Pennsylvania and is a big fan of the ice cream shop that used to be there. While she remains skeptical, Eugene is confident enough to share his name and says he visited Strasburg for a train convention. They agree to keep the conversations private and suggest chatter will stop if anyone else discovers the communication.

This last detail is especially critical to episode 11, as Rosita stumbles upon one of the woman’s radio calls while Eugene is away. After some reassurance, however, she and Eugene resume talking, sing Iron Maiden songs together and even agree to meet at a nearby railyard. Technically we still don’t know the character’s name, but her voice is credited to New Amsterdam actress Margot Bingham.

What the Comics May Reveal About Her Future

Based on the TV description above, it’s almost certain that this voice belongs to a character previously introduced in The Walking Dead comic series. Her name is Stephanie, and she’s a member of a thousands-strong modernized community called The Commonwealth. Similar to her TV show self, Stephanie and Eugene establish communication via radio and form a nearly instant bond with one another.

In the printed version, though, it’s the now-deceased Siddiq that discovers Eugene’s new friend. When he does, Rick strikes a deal remotely to meet with the leader of the community himself. This leader is named Pamela Milton, and many feel she could have similarities to Georgie on the TV show. Georgie was last seen at the end of Season 8, where she described her dream of a modernized community in the new world. Maggie is currently with her, and it’s possible Rick may be as well.

Outside her leader, however, Stephanie and Eugene eventually form a romantic relationship and even work together to rebuild the train tracks surrounding the area. With that in mind, past mentions of train conventions and their decision to have their first meeting on the TV series be at a train yard seems like a pretty significant detail. In the comics, Stephanie dies from unknown causes during a time jump. It’s possible her role on the AMC series may be more significant or less significant than the original. That’s all we know about The Walking Dead’s mysterious radio woman for now.

The Walking Dead continues March 8 on AMC with Season 10 episode 11.
