At the end of The Umbrella Academy Season 2 the Hargreeves family returned to their original timeline that they left in Season 1, only to learn that their actions in 1960s Dallas meant that Reginald Hargreeves (Colm Feore) decided not to adopt them.
Luther (Tom Hopper), Diego (David Castañeda), Alison (Emmy Raver-Lampman), Klaus (Robert Sheehan), Five (Aidan Gallagher) and Viktor (Elliot Page) learn that they have been replaced by a new group of superheroes who are part of The Sparrow Academy.
Who Are The Sparrow Academy Members and What Are Their Powers?
The Sparrow Academy like the Umbrellas before them consists of seven superheroes, with their leader taking on the role of Number One and the rest vying for the top spot.
1. Ben
When they return to their timeline the first thing the Hargreeves realize is that their late sibling Ben is now alive and part of The Sparrow Academy, though he is quite different to the brother they knew and loved.
While their Ben was kind and loyal, the Sparrow Academy’s Ben is more of an antagonist this time around as he often argues and butts heads with his former siblings.
For Justin H. Min, who has portrayed the character since Season 1, it was “kind of sad but fun” to play this new version of Ben, the actor told Newsweek.
When asked if he enjoyed being able to interact with characters other than Sheehan’s Klaus, Min said: “[it was] so, so nice. I’ve been getting to watch these incredible actors do their thing for the past few seasons, but I never got to really interact with them and so it was such a joy to be able to, like, look people in the eye for the first time and act alongside them.
“Although this time around, you know, it had to be in a more adversarial way, which is kind of sad, but it’s fun, it’s nice.”
Ben’s powers remain the same even if he’s on a new team, and he continues to be able to summon eldritch creatures from another dimension including a giant squid.
2. Marcus
Marcus is the current Number 1 of The Sparrow Academy, and he is portrayed by Justin Cornwell in the TV show.
The character’s powers consist of superhuman strength which makes him appear similar to The Umbrella Academy’s number one Luther.
3. Fei
Fei is Number Three of The Sparrow Academy, and the character is played by actor Britne Oldford.
Though she is blind Fei can see through the eyes of the murder of crows that she can summon at any given moment.
4. Alphonso
Jake Epstein takes on the role of Alphonso, who is The Sparrow Academy’s Number Four in contrast to Sheehan’s Klaus.
Alphonso has an interesting ability because he has superhuman durability and any wound made on him is actually inflicted upon his attacker.
5. Sloane
Sloane is the superhero team’s Number Five, and she is played by Genesis Rodriguez in the Netflix series.
The character has the ability to manipulate gravity, which allows her to float in the air as if she is flying and she can also use her powers to do the same to others.
6. Jayme
Jayme is portrayed by Cazzie David in The Umbrella Academy, and she is the family’s Number Six.
The superhero’s powers stem from her ability to spit venom which causes her targets to have strange hallucinations.
7. Christopher
Christopher is probably the most intriguing of all The Sparrow Academy members because he is described as a psykronium cube of unknown origin.
The character does not speak in an expected way but his siblings are able to understand him somehow, also his powers include fear inducement and other mindbending abilities.
